Natural Indian Slate Processing & Global Export Supply

Formed through low-grade regional metamorphism of shale and mudstone deposits, natural Indian slate is recognized internationally for its rich chromatic range, exquisite natural cleavage, and shimmering mica mineral luster. As a premier Indian slate exporter and manufacturer, Indian Stone Inc supplies wholesale container consignments of calibrated floor tiles, stacked 3D stone ledger panels, mosaic wall claddings, and split-face flagstones to stone distributors and builders merchants in North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East.

Unlike fragile or clayey slates that flake and disintegrate, genuine Indian metamorphic slates quarried along the northern fringes of Rajasthan (Kund, Deoli) and Himachal Pradesh boast high quartz-mica crystalline bonding. They demonstrate exceptional flexural strength (>25 MPa), zero chemical efflorescence, high slip resistance (R11/R12 ratings), and total non-porosity against wine, coffee, or household grease.

Our state-of-the-art calibrating lines grind the underside of split slate to precise 10mm, 12mm, or 15mm nominal depths. This calibration eliminates uneven lippage during tile installation and allows rapid thin-set adhesive fixing on both floors and vertical walls.

Finishes & Physical Test Performance

  • Natural Cleft: Formed by hand-splitting stone blocks along their natural cleavage planes, retaining the raw, textured micro-relief that provides superior slip resistance.
  • Honed / Satin Finish: Smooth ground surface that diminishes surface cleft while preserving delicate chromatic swirls and veining for contemporary flooring.
  • Tumbled: Softly tumbled edges giving an aged, historic flagstone appearance reminiscent of vintage French or English country estates.
  • Brushed Leathered: Gently abraded with diamond-impregnated brushes to produce a velvety, satin finish with comfortable barefoot traction.

Physical Test Performance (ASTM C406 & EN 12326)

Water Absorption: ≤ 0.28% by weight
Modulus of Rupture: 26–34 MPa
Density: 2.68–2.78 g/cm³
Slip Resistance (Wet PTV): > 60 PTV (Extremely safe)
Acid Resistance: Inert against domestic cleaners

ISPM-15 Export Packaging & Ocean Logistics

Because calibrated slate tiles are lightweight and thin compared to thick granite slabs, packaging requires corrugated cushioning and sturdy outer crating:

  • Individual Corrugated Boxes: Tiles are packed 5 to 10 pieces per heavy cardboard box with styrofoam protection, clearly printed with lot numbers, variety names, and barcode labels.
  • Fumigated Wooden Crates: Boxes are stacked tightly inside ISPM-15 certified wooden crates bound with heavy plastic and steel straps.
  • Container Loading Capacity: Up to 27.5 MT payload per 20ft container:
    • 10mm Calibrated Tiles: ~900–1,000 square meters
    • 12mm Calibrated Tiles: ~750–850 square meters
    • Stacked Stone Ledger Panels: ~500–600 square meters

Loading Ports: Mundra Port (Gujarat) for Rajasthan slates; Nhava Sheva (JNPT Mumbai) for central/southern selections. All shipments include full fumigation certificates, packing lists, and commercial invoices.

Frequently Asked Questions — Indian Slate Export

Can calibrated Indian slate tiles be installed with underfloor heating?

Yes. Natural slate has excellent thermal conductivity and retains radiant heat evenly without expanding, warping, or cracking. It is an ideal flooring solution over radiant hydronic or electric underfloor heating systems.

Will Indian slate delaminate or flake after installation?

Minor micro-flaking (known as initial cleft settlement) can occur during the first few days of handling. However, because our export-grade slates possess dense quartz-mica metamorphic structures, they do not suffer from progressive delamination or deep spalling over time.

What is the lead time for producing 3D ledger wall cladding panels?

For a full container of 15×60cm ledger panels (approx. 500–600 m²), factory assembly and drying takes 12 to 16 days. Transit time to European and US ports ranges between 24 and 32 days.

Can we mix slate tiles and ledger panels in the same container?

Yes. Many of our distributor clients import mixed containers with 60% calibrated flooring tiles and 40% matching stacked ledger wall panels to offer matching floor-and-wall packages to retail homeowners.
